About the Osseo Police Department

Former Osseo Police Chief Seymour Babcock

The City of Osseo is located approximately 25 minutes north of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro area, along U.S. Highway 169. The Osseo Police Department provides 24-hour patrol services, covering 1.2 square miles and serving a community of just under 2,700 residents.

The department is staffed by nine full-time officers, two part-time officers, one community service officer, four reserve officers, one detective, one lieutenant, an office manager, and the Chief of Police. Full-time officers are responsible for day-to-day patrol duties as well as specialized roles, including crime prevention, property management, and fleet maintenance. Part-time officers provide coverage for open shifts, assist during special events, and are a vital part of the department’s operations.

The department is led by Chief of Police Shane Mikkelson, who oversees planning, coordination, and overall operations.

In addition to core patrol responsibilities, the Osseo Police Department actively participates in community programs designed to improve public safety, strengthen police–community relationships, and deter crime.
